When Jayson Tipp launched his solo Smooth Jazz career with the album TABLE FOR ONE in 2023, the big story was his transition to being a solo artist after leading the popular San Diego fusion band Under the Lake in the 90s and bringing them back to prominence in the late 2010s. Since then, the focus is on his collaborations on hit tracks with some of the genre's top artist/producers, including Darren Rahn and Adam Hawley. His impressive streak continues with the bright, brassy and high spirited "Takin' Off," a co-write with saxophonist Andrew Neu and bassist/producer/mixer Roberto Vally whose burst of sweet swaying funk blends Tipp's exciting, often improvisational piano artistry with, Vally's poppin' bass groove and slick production values, along with Neu's fiery horn arrangements and urgent, soaring solo action.
