When saxophonist Kim Waters named one of his twin girls Kayla, which means “keeper of the keys,” it was a prophecy on her future life as one of Smooth Jazz’s most exciting and innovative young artists. Following triumphantly in her dad’s footsteps, Kayla made Billboard history when one of her four #1 singles – “Full Bloom” – stayed in the top spot longer than any other female pianist/composer. On her Shanachie Records debut PRESENCE, she vibes with her dad on most of the programing and production, showcasing both catchy, fast-paced and meditative/spirited-minded melodies amidst easygoing and funked up grooves and trippy-cool atmospheres. While the sparkling magic of the Waters family ties headlines the show, Kayla also works with Chris “Big Dog” Davis on two of the album’s most sonically epic tracks.
