MARILYN SCOTT

Every Time We Say Goodbye
Venus Records/Prana Entertainment

Marilyn Scott is timeless… she’s a beautiful soul with an attractive demeanor whose hip, TV star good looks grace the cover her new acoustic jazz collection EVERY TIME WE SAY GOODBYE. As a vocalist, Ms. Scott is all terrain… she has successfully recorded pop, soul, Smooth Jazz during 30 year career, but it’s no secret, her passion is jazz. So when she received an invitation from Tetsuo Hara, the president of Japan-based Venus Records, to meet in New York to work with pianist Cyrus Chestnut and veteran jazz producer Todd Barkan, she joyfully accepted. The ensemble spent an August weekend together in 2007 recording in The Village at The Studio laying down tracks in an organic, acoustic fashion that reflects the tradition of classic jazz recordings. This project is simply delightful. The arrangements are stunning and the first listen left me speechless. The Cole Porter title track is uncomplicated and silky smooth… Leonard Bernstein’s “Lonely Town” is gorgeous and deep, while the treatment on the Bacharach staple “Do You Know The Way To San Jose” is saucy and fun with a Brazilian slant, and “Cry Me A River” is savvy and sexy. Ten cherry picked tracks in all -- EVERY TIME WE SAY GOODBYE is Marilyn Scott at her finest… confident and captivating!
